Did you know that as a Montshire Member you can take advantage of a great offer to visit The Fells in Newbury, NH for free during the month of August? We checked it out this weekend and took part in their Family Hay Day Festival which was great fun!
If you've never been to The Fells, it's a wonderful place to visit. They offer easy walks on nature trails, some which take a loop around different areas of wildflowers, bird sanctuaries and the fairy village and others which take longer paths through the woods and The Hay Refuge. Hikes for all abilities and the paths are fairly stroller friendly for those strollers that can handle a bit more than pavement. Be sure to consult their trail map for the description of each trail if you're bringing a stroller along.
The grounds and gardens are open daily from 9:00 - 5:00 to explore on your own with paid admission. Borrow a children's nature explorer backpack for fun filled exploration, use your GPS to find hidden geocaches or follow printed clues for The Fells own Valley Quest and discover a hidden treasure box.
Be sure to visit the Fairy Village. Just a quick stroll into the woods and you enter a magical woodland where children can build their own magical creations for the fairies to enjoy with natural objects. Step lightly so as not to disturb the many small creations left behind by others. Children will love discovering the unique "houses" in this woodland village and building their own as well.
The grounds of The Fells offer beautiful scenery with gardens, fountains and works of sculptured art. The Main House and Gift Shop are open on weekends and offer guided tours. Beverages and light snacks are available in the gift shop. The grounds are available for picnicking at the Gatehouse and the Main House on the Veranda with a carry in/carry out policy. Be advised that the main parking area is at the Gatehouse (handicapped parking is available at the Main House on the grounds) and a 1/4 mile walk on a gravel road takes you from the Gatehouse to the Main House.
The Fells offers many programs for children and families throughout the year. Check their website for complete details.
General admission is $8 for adults, $3 for children ages 6-17, under 6 free and discounts of $1 for seniors and students. Reduced rates apply when the Main House is closed. The Fells does offer a family/household cap on admission of $20.
Enjoy your visit!
